Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is situated in far south western Uganda and the most visited park of all the ten National Parks in Uganda.  Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is famous for hosting half of the world’s remaining mountain Gorillas.

At the size of 331 square kilometers, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is the most visited park due to its endowment. The park protects the largest number of the world’s mountain gorillas with 19 habituated families ready for trekking.

Most of the popular activities in Bwindi Forest include; Mountain Gorilla Trekking, Nature walks, Birding, filming, community tours and cultural safaris among others. In this article however, let us focus on filming experience in Bwindi forest.

Filming in Bwindi Impenetrable national Park requires authorization from Uganda Wildlife Authority – the body which protects all wildlife reserves in Uganda. Filming activities are done by Ugandans and Foreign experts for business reasons,  adventure among others.

Filmmakers can target primates, water bodies, tree species, insects, birds, reptiles and relief features among others.

Before allowed to take on filming in Uganda, all filmmakers must submit their requests to UWA, make payments and then sign a contract with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

All members of the crew must be accredited by the Uganda media council (UMC) to be able to film in the country. Media accreditation is a must for all applicant to feature films or documentaries in Uganda. Each crew member is required to fill Form G with all details, scan and send it back to us with a copy of his/her passport as well as one photograph to be put on his/her media card and work IDs. On top of this, we will need a letter from the filming company detailing who they are? why they are filming? where they will be filming? and details of crew members on this shoot. Crew members will also be required to seek for letters of good conduct from Interpol (it’s a must have). We will attach this to all details provided and send them to Uganda Media Council for Media card processing and follow it up. This process takes about 2-3 working days.
