Filming in Uganda is among the top tourist activities for guests on Uganda safari however to be able to carry out filming, you need to have proper permits and accreditation. The Uganda Media council is authorized to issue filming permits to domestic and international filmmakers.

Filming destinations in Uganda:

Kibale National Park – Its among the top ten parks in Uganda, situated in western region and covers 766 square Kilometers. Kibale National Park can be accessed after 5hrs drive from Kampala or Entebbe Airport. Its famous for protecting troops of chimpanzees. While in Kibale national Park, you can film birds, primates, vegetation, Bigodi swamp among others.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Its the most popular and visited National Park in Uganda. BNP is situated in far south western Uganda and can be reached after 8-9hrs drive from Kampala or Entebbe International airport.  Top attraction to film in Bwindi include the mountain Gorillas, water falls, birds, the Batwa Pygmies, forest mammals, insects, canopy trees among.

Lake Mburo National Park – It’s located along Kampala – Mbarara road in Kiruhura district. Its the smallest Savannah park in Uganda but Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the smallest of all the ten parks. It’s a home to 350 bird species as well as zebras, impalas, elands, buffalos, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reedbuck. In Lake Mburo National Park, guests can film water bodies, animals, birds, vegetation among others.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park – Its the smallest national Park in Uganda. Its located is south western Uganda covering 33.9 km2 (13.1 sq mi). The park is famous for protecting mountain Gorillas and part of Virunga region together with Virunga National Park in Democratic Republic of Congo and Volcanoes national Park in Rwanda. Uganda filming in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park can capture Mountain Gorillas, birds, forest mammals, forests, the Batwa Pygmies among others.

Semuliki National Park – Semuliki National Park is situated in Bwamba County, a remote part of the Bundibugyo district in the Western Region of Uganda that was established. Filming in semuliki National Park can capture chimpanzees, wild animals, birds, hot springs among others.

Kidepo Valley national Park – Situated in far north eastern Uganda in Kabong district. KNP is the most isolated park and a true wildness. Its situated in a semi-arid region and has two season rivers namely; River Kidepo and River Narus.  The two Rivers disappears in dry season but leaves only pools for wildlife.

Kidepo Valley National Park is surrounded by pastoral Karamajong and the Ik just like the Masaai of Kenya. Filming in KVNP can capture seasonal rivers in rainy season, wild animals, birds and so on. Kidepo Valley National Park lies in the rugged, semi arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with south Sudan in the north west and only 5km from the eastern border of Kenya, some 700km from Kampala. Gazetted as a national park in 1962, it has a profusion of big game and hosts over 77 mammal species.

Queen Elizabeth National Park – its the second largest park in Uganda covering 764 square miles (1,978 square km). The park is situated in western Uganda along Kasese road. Filming in Queen Elizabeth National Park targets stocks of wild animals, Kazinga channel, birds, unique savannah vegetation, relief features among others. Filmmakers are advised not to miss filming in QENP while at a vacation in Uganda.

Mount Elgon National Park – the highest block mountain in Uganda. It was gazetted in 1991 and recognized as a World Heritage site in 1994 and a Ramsar site in 2008. Highest point: 5,109m above sea level on Mt Stanley’s Margherita Peak. The border with DR Congo bisects Mt. Stanley. 70 mammal species, 217 bird species, and various primates among the major animals to film include Chimpanzees, Okapi, forest elephants, and numerous bird species make these mountains their home.

Mount Rwenzori – Its the highest block mountain in Uganda at 5,109 meters (Margherita peak) and the third-highest point in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya. Mount Rwenzori makes Rwenzori Mountains National Park which is located at Uganda- Democratic Republic of Congo border. The park was gazetted in 1991 and was recognized as a World Heritage site in 1994 and a Ramsar site in 2008. During filming in Rwenzori Mountains National Park, look for mountain peaks, hanging valleys, U-shaped Valleys, Rivers, crater Lakes, vegetation, insects, reptiles, among others.

Mount Elgon – Its one of Uganda’s oldest extinct volcano was first erupted 24 million years ago. It was once Africa’s highest mountain, exceeding Mt. Kilimanjaro current 5,895m. Due to continues erosion for many years, have reduced its height to 4,321m, making it the 4th highest peak in East Africa and 8th on Africa continent. Film makers in Uganda have pictures to capture at Mount Elgon like Caves, birds, forest, sipi falls and mountain peaks among others.
