Mabira Forest

Its one of the gazetted forests in Uganda situated in Buikwe district. Its the largest tropical forest in Uganda and can be accessed from Kampala towards Eastern Uganda (approximately 1hrs drive). Mabira forest covers an area of about 300 square kilometres (120 sq mi) (30,000 hectares (74,000 acres) in Uganda. The forest has been protected as Mabira Forest Reserve since 1932.

A lot of attraction can be sighted in Mabira forest include birds- about 315 bird species. Some of the birds found here include Nahan’s francolin, Tit Hylia, Yellow and grey long bills, Purple-throated cuckoo shrikes, Illadopsises, and Jameson’s wattle eyes.

Primates to watch in Mabira forest include the Red-tailed monkeys, Black-and-white Colobus monkey, and Grey-Cheeked Mangabey.

Other attractions in Mabira forest include canopies, streams, insects, reptiles among others.

Filming in Mabira forest requires the filming crew to get filming permission from National Forest Authority (NFA) – a letter expressing the intention to film in Uganda’s forests, the details needed are minimal, simplifying the application process, Media accreditation by Uganda Media council (UMC).
